Suspension of Meetings

The Men Who Care CBRM organizers have decide to suspend the groups meeting for the time being.

Since inception we have had 10 meetings and given out approximately $55,000 to local area organizations doing terrific work in our community. Since the first meeting numbers have steadily declined, both in people coming to the meetings and those donating after the meeting. Close to half of the total amount was given in the first three meetings and then we have struggled to reach the 50 donations ($5000) mark. The last meeting brought in only $3700.

We have attempted to reach out to the members from the 2016 meetings to ensure commitment to the group and attend the short quarterly meetings but it has not been successful. We have tried different venues, shortened meeting times, etc. We have had some new men join at various meetings but it does not increase the number because an equal or higher number have left.

We are very grateful and wish to thank anyone who has donated in the past and especially the 30-35 core members who have donated since inception. The recipient groups are always pleased and thankful to us. A small amount of money can go a long way, but since our member number keeps decreasing per meeting the difference in total donation given per meeting is becoming too varied and inconsistent.

It may be possible that the group resurfaces in the future in the local area and we are sure some of you will want to contribute. But for now this group has suspended operations. Once again thank you for your support on behalf of the 10 worthwhile organizations that benefited from your donations over the past three years.

Many thanks –
Organizing committee

Happy New Year and welcome back to the 100 Men Cape Breton group!

Our first year is now in the books, with donations having been made to four worthwhile local organizations.

There have been a few hiccups along the way, but we plan to get things going more smoothly for 2017!

To that end, local company AG Research has agreed to help us with communication to members through our updated website, Facebook, and email communications. We thank them immensely for their efforts.

We have four confirmed dates for the upcoming year, which you can mark on your calendars now. We have deliberately avoided the summer months as many people are away on vacation:

Day: Monday
Time: 5:30pm -7:00pm

  • January 23
  • March 20 Rescheduled to April 3rd 6 p.m.
  • June 19
  • October 23

Location: Casino Cape Breton (George St., Sydney) for all four meetings

Many thanks go to casino management, who were very helpful in our last meeting and have agreed to host us for the next four meetings of 2017.

Now that a year has passed, it’s time to bring back past recipients for a short update on how they were able to use our financial help.¬†Chester Borden of the Sydney-Whitney Pier Boys and Girls club (our first recipient in 2016) will give a brief chat prior to our usual agenda.

In addition, a representative from AG Research will be there to briefly explain what they do and how they are helping the 100 Men group.

We have a number of local organizations coming forward, so there is no shortage of worthwhile causes to contribute to in the coming year!

We are actively looking for more members so please spread the word, perhaps by just forwarding this website or word of mouth with friends, colleagues, etc.

We will send out a reminder email the week before the Jan. 23rd meeting, and then one more on the day of the meeting.

We hope to see everyone on Jan. 23rd at the Casino, 5:30-7:00!
